North Valley Farm
My name is Christiane Payton. I am
the shepherd at North Valley Farm and I
am a spinner, knitter and weaver.
Both Romneys and Lincolns are
longwool sheep, well suited to the wet
winters of Oregon's Willamette Valley.
Our animals have been carefully selected
to produce well muscled carcasses as
well as long lustrous fleeces with an
excellent hand.
Whether you need breeding stock, locker
lamb, fleeces, roving or yarn - contact us
and we'll use our knowledge of livestock
and fiber arts to find the sheep or fiber
that best suites your needs.
When I started my farm in 1999, I bought
several sheep from reputable area breeders.
We now have over 25 breeding ewes and, as
any sheep farmer knows, the work load is
substantial. You do this work because you
love it, not because you have any hopes of
getting rich! I could not be where I am
today without the help and support of my
family and friends.

Two women, in particular, have helped my farm get to where it is today. The first is
Carolyn Wedberg, left, who entrusted me with some of her very best Romneys, including
her beloved Irene. Irene is 10 years old this year and blessed us with a fantastic set of twins
in early January. Michelle Montgomery, right, provided the seed stock for my new Lincoln
flock with some of the best breeding animals you could hope to find. In addition, Michelle
tackled the creation of this website. Thank you Carolyn and Michelle, for your help, for
your friendship and for the inspiration you have provided me. I will treasure all of those
things in my heart and seek to pass them on to the next generation of shepherds and fiber
artists wherever they may be.
Christiane
